The Co-Parenting House is a four-story mixed-use building located in Vancouver’s Riley Park neighbourhood, designed to support diverse family structures and improve housing and childcare access. Situated on a double corner lot near local schools, the project includes a daycare on the ground floor and six residential units above. It reimagines co-housing around co-parenting, where children are raised not only by separated parents but also by extended family and the community. A central courtyard connects all floors and functions as a social and circulation hub, while shared balconies, flexible unit layouts, and communal spaces foster interaction. Sustainable design strategies include mass timber construction, permeable landscaping, and rainwater management through bioswales and a rain wall. Outdoor spaces like vegetable gardens and a puddle zone promote dynamic, educational play. By integrating childcare, shared amenities, and adaptable design, The Co-Parenting House supports a connected community where care and responsibility are shared among close-knit families and neighbours.
